The first written mention of the Pecka Castle dates to 1322. The castle originally served to protect the regional border and the gold mines near the village of Stupná. The castle was surrounded by a moat, across which a draw bridge provided access to the castle. Starting in the second half of the 16th century overall Renaissance reconstruction was gradually implemented. Remodelling of the interior at the beginning of the 17th century was completed by Kryštof Harant of Polžice and Bezdružice, who was later executed in June 1621. The chateau then gradually fell into disrepair and its fame reached a definitive end with an extensive fire in 1830. Officially sanctioned disassembly of the walls followed; this lasted until 1921 when the village of Pecka assumed ownership of the chateau ruins. With the help of residents, state grants, and their own resources, the village restored the west Harant Palace.
